Mold remediation in Calgary

Mold always follows moisture. Finding and fixing the water source is the first step to getting rid of it for good.

Mold always follows moisture. In Calgary-area homes the usual triggers are plumbing and roof leaks, basement seepage during spring melt, ice damming after freeze-thaw cycles, sewer backups, and humidity trapped in poorly ventilated bathrooms and attics. Left alone, a patch the size of your hand can spread through drywall, framing, carpet underlay, and HVAC systems — and the spores it releases affect air quality throughout the building.

Our remediation process

1. Find and fix the source. There is no point cleaning mold while it's still being fed. We locate the moisture source — leak, condensation, drainage, ventilation — and coordinate the repair before remediation begins.

2. Contain the area. We seal the affected zone with poly sheeting and run negative air with HEPA filtration so spores don't spread to clean areas of the building during removal.

3. Remove and clean. Affected porous materials (drywall, insulation, underlay) are removed and disposed of in sealed bags. Salvageable surfaces are HEPA-vacuumed, cleaned, and treated. If disturbed materials in an older home might contain asbestos, we test first — mold and asbestos frequently show up in the same wall.

4. Dry and verify. We dry the space to safe moisture levels with commercial dehumidifiers and air movers and verify with moisture meters before closing anything back up.

5. Restore. Because we also do restoration, the same team rebuilds what was removed — insulation, drywall, paint, flooring — and does the final clean.

Signs you may need mold remediation

  • Musty odor in a basement, bathroom, or closet that doesn't go away
  • Visible staining or fuzzy growth on walls, ceilings, or window frames
  • A recent flood, leak, or sewer backup that wasn't professionally dried
  • Allergy-like symptoms that improve when you leave the house

Frequently asked questions

Can I clean mold myself?

A small patch on a hard surface (under about one square metre) can often be cleaned with detergent. Anything larger, anything on drywall or insulation, or anything that keeps coming back needs professional remediation — because the growth you can see is rarely all of it, and the moisture source has to be fixed.

Is black mold dangerous?

Any significant indoor mold growth should be removed regardless of colour. Some species produce allergens and irritants that affect air quality, and sensitive people can react strongly. Colour alone doesn't tell you the species — the fix is the same: remove it and fix the moisture.

Will mold come back after remediation?

Not if the moisture source is fixed — that's why we address it first. Mold can't grow on dry materials. We verify moisture levels before restoring the space.

Does insurance cover mold remediation?

Often, when the mold results from a sudden covered loss such as a burst pipe. Gradual leaks and maintenance issues are usually excluded. We document everything so your claim has the best chance.
